India Volunteer and Adventure – 3 Week Volunteer and Travel Program

With a mix of volunteering work for the cultural service experience and oodles of traveling around in India, the India Volunteer and Adventure Program is perfect for high school, teens, schoolies and gappers as well. Spread over 3 weeks, this trip gives participants a keen insight into the Indian living, culture, cities and its historic monuments. Covering cities like the capital city of Delhi, Pink City Jaipur, Agra, Hill station Dharamsala and the Golden temple city of Amritsar - the trip encompasses all important experiences offered by Northern India.

Participants also get to volunteer in Delhi for the street children and help in day care activities along with construction and outdoor works in the picturesque Himalayan town of Palampur.

    Program Itinerary

    Day 1 (Saturday) - Arrival

    Participants will be picked from the New Delhi International Airport on the start date and will be transferred to their accommodation. Pickup can also be arranged to any hotel that participants are staying in, if they are in Delhi already. The timings of the pickup are from 6.30 am to 10.30 pm. 

    Meals - Are provided but also depends on the time of arrival.

    Day 2 (Sunday) - Short Orientation and Sightseeing of Delhi

    Post breakfast, all volunteers will get an orientation about the city, the itinerary and general information about the trip ahead. After this, an extensive tour of the city which includes monuments like Qutub Minar, India Gate, Lotus temple and Humayun’s Tomb. Lunch enroute. A welcome and get together meal in the evening with fellow volunteers.

    Day 3 (Monday) - Day 7 (Friday) - Volunteer Work and cultural experiences

    Volunteer work begins on Day 3. All volunteers will be taken to the local project location in Delhi where everyone gets to work with street kids in Delhi. Activities will include teaching them, playing with them and decorating the center. Volunteers can adopt their own creativity to make the experience filled with fun and learning for the kids. Catching hold of a few local phrases will go a long way for this project.

    Special Highlights of the Week

    Day 5 - Special Indian cooking class on Wednesday where all volunteers learn to cook local dishes together.

    Day 6 - This will be one of the most memorable experiences for all volunteers. One of the most beautiful temples in the city, volunteers will get to visit the Akshardham Temple and witness the fascinating water show. The USP of this temple is its breathtakingly beautiful architecture.

    Day 8 (Saturday) - Transfer in overnight coach to Palampur - the beautiful Himalayan town of India

    Volunteers can use the day time for shopping and exploring the city. Buy some souvenirs from the famous shopping streets of Delhi like Paharganj Market, Dilli Haat, Janpath and many more. Make sure you come back on time to board the bus to Palampur at night.

    Day 9 (Sunday) - Arrival in Palampur, Dharamsala

    Breathe in the pristine surroundings of Himalayas as you arrive in the city. Located in the lap of mountains, the accommodation in Palampur is one of its many USPs.

    The coordinators will acquaint participants with the city and then take them for a tour of the local markets. All necessary information about the ATMs, shopping centers and the volunteer work next day will be given.

    Day 10 (Monday) - Day 14 (Friday) - Volunteer Work in Palampur

    Volunteer work in Palampur will begin from Day 10. The responsibilities will include working in a day care center for kids in the morning and then contribute in painting and construction work. The beautiful Himalayan surroundings will be an ideal setup to volunteer, work outdoors and bond with fellow volunteers.

    During evenings, Volunteers can play badminton, visit the local market, check out local monasteries, local food and experience countryside living in India. A complimentary yoga class during the week is also included in the trip.

    Day 15 (Saturday) – Trekking in the Himalayas - Weekend Travel

    One of the big highlights of the trip is trekking in the Himalayas. Along with other volunteers, they will head to McLeodganj from where they will take up the 10 KM long Triund trek. Lunch and bottled water will be given before starting the trip. Camping and dinner overnight. A moderately difficult trip, the sweats participants have when climbing will be worth it once you get the view of the beautiful Himalayan snow clad mountains.

    Day 16 (Sunday) - Return to Dharamsala after the Trek

    Sunday morning, participants will return to Dharamsala after having their breakfast. Take rest during the day time and then visit the well - known temple of Dalai Lama. Dinner at any of the rooftop restaurants in the city for a perfect end to their trip in the mountains.

    Day 17 (Monday) - Visit the Golden Temple in Amritsar

    After breakfast in Mcleodganj, participants will be then taken to Amritsar to visit the Golden Temple. They will also see the Jallianwala Bagh (a grim reminder of the British colonial rule in India). A view of the illuminated Golden Temple is also on the cards during the trip. Participants make the most of their free time in Amritsar by tasting the local food which is one of the big specialty of the city.

    Day 18 (Tuesday) - Return to Delhi and Proceed to Agra

    This is a full day of journey as participants first reach Delhi via train and then go to Agra via the Taj Expressway (fastest and smoothest highway in India). Check in at the hotel and rest for the night for an early morning visit to the Taj Mahal.

    Day 19 (Wednesday) - THE TAJ MAHAL

    Well, the monument of love and the beautiful wonder of the world Taj Mahal, finally welcomes participants to its majestic view. An early morning getting ready episode might tire them after all the traveling but the minute they see the mesmerizing monument, all of the toil becomes worth it.

    Post the memorable sightseeing experience at the Taj Mahal, we’ll take the participants to Jaipur, the royal and beautiful pink city of India. A culturally rich evening at Choki dhani (a Village resort) will await them in the city.

    Day 20 (Thursday) - Sightseeing and Working in Elephant Village in Jaipur

    Day starts with an exciting visit to the City Palace. A beautiful traditional Rajasthani Palace with a royal fervour like no other. Before reaching City Palace, we will take a photo stop at Hawa Mahal (Palace of Winds). After visiting City Palace, we will take Volunteers to an Elephant Village in Jaipur. Here they will be working in an Elephant Camp where they can feed the elephants, help the mahouts (caretakers of elephants) in cleaning the premises, bathe the animals and enjoy the experience with the magnificent animal. Volunteers will also get a good opportunity to interact with families and children of the mahouts. In the evening, at around 7 pm, we would take them for a cultural evening, where they can enjoy live entertainment and dinner.

    Day 21 (Friday) -Visit to the Historic Amber Fort – Transfer to Delhi

    In the morning, participants get to see one of the most fascinating monuments of the Hindu Rajput architecture – The Amber Fort. Facing a beautiful lake called Maota, the fort is located high on a hill.  Volunteers can also take an Elephant ride to go to the top of the fort. Later in the afternoon, they will return to Delhi. Upon arrival in Delhi, check in at the accommodation. Evening time is free to relax or to go out for last minute shopping. For those who have booked flights back home can depart for the airport.

    Day 22 (Sat) – Depart for airport, back home or Join Goa Beach Week

    Participants would need to checkout from the accommodation before noon. We recommend booking your flights for Friday night or Saturday morning.

    Optional Extra Beach Week in the Party Capital of India – Goa

    An ideal way to end your summer escapade - a complete party panorama in the most happening beach town of India. Endowed with lip smacking food and affordable drinking options, all you need to do in Goa is take a shack, sit back and relax. Make sure that you’re relaxed enough for the evening parties in Goa, for which it is especially known for.

    Although the tour is unguided, but all tickets, accommodation and morning meal are included in it along with sightseeing and transfers. Here’s the day by day break up of their time in Goa.

    Day 1 (Saturday) – Departure from Delhi

    On Saturday, we will transfer the Goa Beach Week participants to the train station in Delhi. Participants will board the train to Goa. The train would pass through 8 Indian states, this journey becomes more exciting with beautiful terrain at the backdrop. Enjoy the train journey to Goa.  

    Day 2 (Sunday) – Arrival at Goa

    Participants will arrive at Madgaon or Thivim railway station in Goa. One of our representatives will be there at the station to receive them. Participants will be taken to their accommodation and can finish all their check-in formalities there. Participants can either choose to rest at the hotel or venture out for a stroll around. 

    Day 3 (Monday) – Sightseeing tour of North Goa and Panaji

    Enjoy the breakfast at the hotel. Later, we will take participants for a sightseeing tour of North Goa. In this panoramic tour, they will visit the famous Baga and Calangute Beaches. From there on, we would take them to lovely and charming city of Panaji, capital of Goa. In the late afternoon, return to the hotel. Rest of the time is free for leisure activities.

    Day 4 to Day 8 (Tuesday to Saturday) – Fun in Goa

    In these 5 days, participants can have a lot of fun, sunbathing, water sports, and delicious sea food in the shacks on the beaches. One can try luck in the casinos or simply enter any of the beachside pub or discos for a lively evening entertainment. On day 8, Saturday, we will drop the participants to Goa International/Domestic airport or train station or bus terminus as per their onward connection. (Breakfast)
