Teachers Assistant - London

Job Specifications:

Start Dates: All year round (excluding school holiday)
Wages: Daily rate starts from £65 - £80 per day – rate is negotiable depending on role and experience
Meals: Not included
Accommodation: Off-site starting from £85 per week, all bills included
Uniforms: Not included
Reports To Class Teacher / Senior Teaching Support Officer / Head Teacher 

 

Support pupils by:

  • Supervising and assisting individual or small groups of students in activities set by teachers or by the TA with teacher guidance
  • Managing whole classes for short periods of time (parent consultation, etc.)
  • Developing students’ social skills by supporting children in groups
  • Implementing behaviour management policies by guidance provided by the teacher
  • Providing support for students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to participate fully in activities
  • Being aware of the early signs of bullying and disruptive behaviour – intervene if necessary
  • Helping with the inclusion of all children, including those with EAL
  • Supporting individual children who find it difficult to form relationships or successfully grasp the curriculum
  • Helping keep children on task by giving individual attention where necessary 
  • Accompanying classes on school trips where needed
  • Building and maintaining close and secure relationships with pupils, ensuring the care, health and welfare of the children at all times, including the dressing and undressing, the toileting, and the cleaning of students, where necessary
  • Ensuring that any students who have had an accident or feel unwell are referred to the Welfare Officer 

 

Support teachers by:

  • Freeing up the teacher to work with groups
  • Working with outside agencies such as Educational Psychologists and Speech Therapists by liaising and supporting their work with pupils
  • Assisting students with physical needs and difficulties
  • Helping students with their personal hygiene needs
  • Helping implement lesson plans
  • Providing feedback to teachers by observing pupil performance and behaviour, and the effectiveness of classroom processes and organisation
  • Getting classroom materials ready for a lesson by preparing worksheets, preparing books and setting up equipment where necessary
  • Liaising with the teacher and sharing lesson plans
     

Support the curriculum by:

  • Providing support for Literacy and Numeracy Strategies within class
  • Intervening in programmes where necessary
  • Developing skills and knowledge of ICT, particularly in helping children with special needs
  • Attending staff training as appropriate
  • Assessing pupils' learning and writing up findings
  • Any other duties within the scope of this function, as directed by the Head Teacher
